There has never been a better time to get a better, HIGHER-paying job

The job market is on fire and you’re in demand.

If you’ve been considering looking for a new job, there has never been a better time.

The competition for open positions has been dropping like a rock for the last eight years.

Are you underpaid and underappreciated?

Consider yourself lucky.

Why? Because you can do something about it.

To get a better, higher paying job,

there’s a system you Must follow

STEP 1:

MAKE SURE YOU’RE YOU IN THE RIGHT CAREER?

I’ve made multiple career transitions. Check out my bio.

There are many reasons for changing careers.  Maybe you started off in the wrong career. Or, maybe you’ve become bored in your current career and want a change.

STEP 2:

OPTIMIZE YOUR RESUME & COVER LETTER

If your resume hasn’t been optimized for the specific position you are seeking, chances are your resume will never be retrieved. 90% of all resumes are read by an applicant tracking system looking for keywords.

Check out this blog and learn how to use the power of word clouds to make your resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn profile visible to recruiters.

STEP 3:

CREATE YOUR PERSONAL BRAND

If your profile reveals who you are, what you stand for, and what you want, companies and recruiters will find you.  I have written extensively on LinkedIn strategies and here are a few resources you’ll want to check out.

STEP 4:

HONE YOUR ELEVATOR PITCH AND INTERVIEW THE RIGHT WAY

With solid networking skills, you can almost throw away your resume. I wrote a two-part series on how to improve your networking skills.

You also need an elevator pitch. It’s a 30-60 second statement that tells someone who you are, what you do, and about which you are passionate.

Check out these resources.

STEP 5:

UNDERSTAND RECRUITERS

Recruiters work for themselves (external recruiters) or they work for the company looking for a new hire (company recruiters). They are not paid to get you a better paying job. Someone else pays them.

Never pay anyone to find you a job. It doesn’t work that way, recruiters, whether internal or external, work for the organization that has a hiring requirement. Those who want you to pay them are probably running a scam.

STEP 6:

PREPARE FOR AND ACE THE INTERVIEW

Over prepare for every interview, whether it be by telephone, video or in-person. The website is a great place to start. Consider setting up Google alerts to get the most recent press releases and company news.

STEP 7:

NEGOTIATE THE COMPENSATION PACKAGE

Here are some key points:

  1. It isn’t just about the salary. Consider the entire compensation package.
  2. When they ask about your previous salary, tell them you don’t reveal this information.  Instead, ask for the established salary range.
  3. Do your salary research on sites like www.salary.com.
  4. Never be afraid to ask for more. Just say, “Can you do better?”  You’d be surprised how often this works.
