Recruiters work for themselves (external recruiters) or they work for the company looking for a new hire (company recruiters). They are not paid to get you a better paying job. Someone else pays them.
Never pay anyone to find you a job. It doesn’t work that way, recruiters, whether internal or external, work for the organization that has a hiring requirement. Those who want you to pay them are probably running a scam.

NEGOTIATE THE COMPENSATION PACKAGE
Here are some key points:
- It isn’t just about the salary. Consider the entire compensation package.
- When they ask about your previous salary, tell them you don’t reveal this information. Instead, ask for the established salary range.
- Do your salary research on sites like www.salary.com.
- Never be afraid to ask for more. Just say, “Can you do better?” You’d be surprised how often this works.
